But today, I saw a few signs of new life. As I walked along the Mill River, I heard what I think was a baby bird. When I got home, I saw a few crocuses just beginning to bloom. My wife and I went out later to look again and found several more. As I write this, a little after 5:00, there is still daylight, thanks to the time change. At least for today, Spring is beginning!!
I always enjoy the first signs of new life after the winter. And I always associate them with the approaching end of Lent and the grand celebration of Easter. I hope to continue with at least some of my Lenten disciplines after Easter—I want them to be new habits. But I look forward to dropping others. It will be nice to snack and do Sudoku again!!
More importantly, the signs of new life remind me of the good news of Easter, of life after death, of hope even in the dark times. I had a good winter. But I am looking forward to Spring, and I am very grateful for a few signs that it is coming, even if I do have to brace for another snow storm!!
