Truth be told, most of the time I put money in my little blue box, I don’t actually pause to give thanks. It was just a place to collect my change. But lately I have been trying to become more open to God’s presence in my life all the time, more aware of God as I go about my day. For the last week or so, I have been using my little blue box as a means to that end. I have been pausing to think briefly about something for which I am grateful each time I put money in the box.
Maybe it’s working. Or maybe it’s just that I like fall and my children are home this weekend. But I have found myself thinking at least briefly about God more often.
What has been most helpful for me are rivers and fall leaves. I see a body of water, associate to my summer and fall paddles, and feel grateful to God for the gift of water and the opportunity to enjoy it. I see a spectacular tree, and I send up a quick prayer of thanks.
I don’t know how long this will last. But for now I am grateful simply for the gift of feeling grateful!
